Research Interests

I am currently engaged in research with the goal of using CRISPR-Cas9 to introduce new phenotypes in plants. I am working with Arabidopsis thaliana, testing out protocols for knocking out genes. My first target is a gene that controls flowering that will have an obvious phenotype when the gene is knocked out, giving us an easy indicator that the knock-out succeeded. Eventually I plan to move to more useful and beneficial species once we have a system reliably working in a model organism.
